U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Selects ZyLAB's XML-Based Document Management Search and Retrieval Solution

Agency Enhances The National Environmental Publications Information System; Solution Enables Users to Search and Retrieve Over 11,000 EPA Documents Online

August 1, 2005 - Bagshot - ZyLAB, an innovative developer of document management and compliance solutions for paper intensive organizations, today announced that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has implemented the ZyIMAGE Enterprise Webserver Suite solution. This search and retrieval solution powers the newly launched National Environmental Publications Information System (NEPIS) to help users locate information in over 11,000 EPA documents; equating to over one million pages.

NEPIS began in 1997, to offer one-stop shopping for full-text, on-line EPA documents. This external facing Web site houses a vast repository of information that includes a wide range of EPA-related documents, from home owners guides to research documents. This repository grows on a regular basis as documents are continuously scanned into the system. The new site is located at http://nepis.epa.gov.

NEPIS works in concert with The National Service Center for Environmental Publications which maintains and distributes EPA publications in hardcopy, CD ROM and other multi-media formats. The current publication inventory includes over 7,000 titles. NSCEP also develops and distributes the annual EPA National Publications Catalog.

The ZyIMAGE Enterprise Webserver Suite solution offers users, such as the EPA, with the ability to rapidly produce a full-text searchable archive of scanned images. The system enables the EPA to comfortably preserve the digital images permanently in an endurable and open XML format. NEPIS users will now have the ability to use simple searches or execute advanced queries to find the answers they are looking for with great precision.

"ZyLAB is pleased to be involved in the NEPIS project to ensure that EPA-related documents are easily accessible through the use of our non-proprietary technology," said Dr. Johannes Scholtes, president of ZyLAB North America LLC. "Our technology provides advanced full-text retrieval, including scalable fuzzy search, relevance ranking, advanced hit highlighting & hit navigation in imaging so that customers can instantly find the information they are seeking. We look forward to working with the EPA to ensure that all of its data is captured and managed in a way that users can easily access the information they require."
