ZyLAB Selected as Primary Content Management and Investigation Software in Parmalat Fraud Case

Italian Justice Ministry taps ZyLAB for biggest fraud case in European Union history

Bagshot, June 03, 2004 - ZyLAB, an established market leader of document imaging and full-text retrieval software, today announced that the Italian Justice Ministry has selected ZyIMAGE to be the primary content management and information investigation tool for the Parmalat fraud case, the largest financial scandal in European Union History.

When the news broke about alleged fraudulent financial activities at Parmalat, the Italian-based foods giant, Italian Justice Ministry officials began seizing large amounts of company files, both paper and electronic, to be used as evidence. However, Justice officials knew that in order to process and investigate thousands of pages of data in a timely fashion, they would need a comprehensive content management tool. After weighing all of their functional criteria, Justice officials chose ZyLAB's ZyIMAGE/ZyWEB enterprise platform solution. This solution was considered ideal for this investigation because it offered Justice officials

  • A full solution, from scanning services for digitizing and archiving paper documentation to managing the entire investigative workflow. Justice officials can eventually integrate their ZyLAB solution into other high-level legal cases as well.
  • The most robust fuzzy-search and hit highlighting capabilities available for finding specific pieces of information as well as for investigating connections between people and events mentioned in seized documentation.
  • The potential for unlimited amounts of Justice Ministry members to access, interpret and investigate the collected information. Eventually, the same information will be made available to the Parmalat defense team, as required by Italian law.
  • A high-security architecture to protect sensitive case information and ensure the integrity of the investigation.
  • Currently, the Italian Justice Ministry is focusing on managing 500,000 pages of key paper documents. If the case continues to grow and eventually takes into account all of Parmalat's global operations - particularly in terms of financial records and executive memoranda - Justice officials will rely on their ZyLAB solution to process millions of pages of additional data.
