ZyLAB Announces Availability of New Legal Collection Solution
ZyLAB Legal Collection Module Offers Organisations In-House, Automated Solution to Collect Electronic Information for e-Discovery Related Processing, Review and Production
London, UK - November 23, 2009 - ZyLAB, developer of information access applications, today announces the availability of its new Legal Collection Module that enables organisations to minimise risk during an eDiscovery process and minimise disruptions to daily business operations with its non-invasive collection of data from workstations, laptops, servers, and removable storage devices. Most importantly, this module safeguards the integrity of the data and preserves its form.
The ZyLAB Legal Collection Module is typically used in-house to automatically collect potentially relevant electronic information which is intended to be processed, analyzed, reviewed and produced for outside or opposing counsel via ZyLAB’s e-Discovery and Production system. ZyLAB’s eDiscovery system is aligned with the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM), and this new module helps clients avoid costly and often irreparable errors that commonly occur during the identification, preservation and collection stages of eDiscovery. Also, the chain of custody is kept and metadata is collected and maintained.
As part of the end-to-end ZyLAB eDiscovery and Production system, the Legal Collection Module enables in-house legal departments to:
- Reduce expenses for third-party service providers to collect Electronically Stored Information (ESI)
- Take greater control over the processes used to identify ESI of potential interest
- Leverage greater familiarity with the organisation’s data, data sources, people who generate the data, people who work with the data, and so on
- Conduct a narrower, more focused collection process
- Follow a consistent process over multiple matters
- Minimise disruption to custodians – the people whose ESI is of potential interest
- Minimise disruption to the people who maintain the IT infrastructure
- Lower collection costs
- Reduce the likelihood of over-collection and accidental or intentional spoliation
“Although we already provided advanced collection tools for e-discovery, with this new solution we also offer a completely automated collection methodology which significantly reduces the impact on an organisation’s technology resources,” said Johannes Scholtes, Chief Strategy Officer for ZyLAB. “Our Legal Collection Module automatically copies potentially relevant ESI from every device within an enterprise to a litigation hold server, creates a chain of custody, and then filters files by various criteria to reduce the irrelevant data submitted for processing.”
Extensive audit trail and reporting is provided including: Status of collection per matter per custodian; Status of collection custodian per matter; Report per matter per custodian on file types collected; Report per custodian on file types collected; Total amount of data collected; Total data by location or Custodian or by location per custodian; and Total data not copied, list of files not copied, and why the documents were not copied. The reports and audit trail can be used to analyse the collection and hence better manage the associated costs and risks of eDiscovery while preparing their organisations for the litigation process.
